Mirror Envy is my passion and has been my creative journey for the past 10 years.
My name is Nicki Sideris. I live in Melbourne, Australia. I am a mosaic mirror and glass artist and a graphic designer. I am obsessed with colour, pattern and textures.
All my works are handmade using mirror and coloured mirror. Each mosaic is made up of hundreds, sometimes thousands of smaller pieces. Each piece is cut by me, from larger sheets of glass that I source locally. All glass, then gets what Nicki calls "the Mirror Envy treatment"; professionally mirrored (silvered) and ready for use.
It was during my travels through Italy in 2009, that I was inspired by the craftmanship of the mosaic courtyards found in Pompeii, Italy. These masterpieces are still there, after thousands of years. It made a lasting impression on me and I returned to Australia, wanting to learn how to mosaic. After completing a short course, where I explored using all different types of material, I quickly discovered that I LOVED working exclusively with glass and mirror. That year, Mirror Envy was born.
Inspired by the strong, bold and angular geometric patterns of the Art Deco era, I have created a portfolio of works that exudes elegance and glamor. These are luxurious, highly reflective, sparkling creations, created for an aesthetic that is beyond the norm.
In 2018, my stunning Art Deco piece ‘BRILLIANT’ was featured in an episode of Foxtel’s Love it or List Australia (Preston). (see image above).
I have exhibited work at the Brunswick St Gallery, Drysdale’s Festival of Glass, Mt Eliza Art and Design Show and Red Hill Art Show.
